9. ATTACH THE SCIENCE BOOM TO THE SPUN BUS.

• On the black end of the SCIENCE BOOM, find the two V-shaped notches. Spread them apart slightly. Now, on the SPUN BUS, find two V-shaped notches at the end of the boom support marked A A.

  

• Apply a drop of glue to the end of the white tab, at the end of the SCIENCE BOOM, on its top surface (same side as the gold). Insert the two V-shaped notches of the SCIENCE BOOM into the two V-shaped notches on the SPUN BUS boom support A A. They fit together at right angles. While the notches are engaged, tuck the glue-tipped white tab UNDER the black crossmember that it touches. Hold the SCIENCE BOOM straight out from the SPUN BUS while the glue dries thoroughly.

  

• Apply glue to the engaged V-shaped notches and let the glue dry thoroughly.

  Assembly tip: You might want to try standing the SPUN BUS on its STAR SCANNER and RTG BOOMS, with support A A sticking straight up. Then you can balance the SCIENCE BOOM in place vertically, perhaps resting along the edge of a book for vertical alignment while the glue dries.

  

• Release the NUTATION DAMPER from sheet A. Fold the hinged panels at one end as shown, with the hook pointing as shown. The two tiny rectangular panels which point away from each other will be called its FEET.

• Set the NUTATION DAMPER's FEET down over the A which is closer to the 2 on top of the SPUN BUS, with the J-shaped end pointing outboard, parallel with the SCIENCE BOOM. Hook the J-shaped end into the truss on the side of the SCIENCE BOOM where it comes closest, and secure with glue. Glue the FEET to the top of the SPUN BUS at the A mark.
